Lesson 3 – Jesus Accepts Us
Bible Basis: Matthew 26: 31-35; 57-75; Mark 16:5-7; Luke 24:10-12; John 21:15-19
Lesson Focus: Jesus accepts us even when we mess us.
Memory Verse: “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.” Psalm 145:8
Bible Readiness: To help connect their own experiences of sin with the Bible story of Peter denying Jesus, the children will participate in roleplays about messing up.
Bible Study: Jesus restores Peter to fellowship.
Bible Activity Choices: Children will discover that Jesus accepts us.
Bible Response: To apply to their own lives the Bible story about Peter denying Jesus, children will choose a way to express how they feel about Jesus’ acceptance of us.
Tie to the Bible: It’s likely some children will not have a distinct resolution about their experience, or that none will mention being forgiven after messing up. Have an experience of your own to relate about a time you messed up with someone and were forgiven for your blunder. In our Bible story, one of Jesus’ good friends messed up really badly. He didn’t make a mistake. In this case, ‘mess up’ means ‘to sin’. He deliberately did the wrong thing. Let’s read his story, discover what he did, how he felt, and what happened after he messed up.
Seeing God throughout the Week: Encourage children to remember that Jesus accepts them even when they mess up. Invite them to thank God this week for His forgiveness and acceptance. Ask them to read their memory verse each day this week.
